Aldo Flecchia – A Sculpture for Haikou
Art, friendship and cultural dialogue between Italy and China
Haikou (Hainan), China
2026 | 04/13–04/18

One of the most significant moments of Amalart's international activities took place in Haikou, on Hainan Island, where Italian sculptor Aldo Flecchia created and donated an original marble sculpture to the city.
The artwork, entitled Daughter of the Sea, was conceived and carved in Carrara marble during Flecchia's stay in Hainan and was officially presented within the framework of the cultural initiatives connected to the China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) 2026.
Rather than being a temporary exhibition piece, the sculpture was created from the beginning as a permanent public artwork, intended to remain in Haikou as a lasting symbol of friendship and cultural exchange between Italy and China.

The work depicts a female figure emerging from a shell carried by the waves, evoking themes of birth, beauty and the generative force of nature. Through this image, the artist creates a dialogue between the Italian sculptural tradition and the maritime identity of Hainan Island.
For over four decades, Aldo Flecchia has developed a unique artistic language centered on marble and granite, exploring the relationship between matter, memory and transformation. His sculptures appear to emerge naturally from the stone, revealing forms that seem to have always existed within it.
The initiative forms part of a broader programme of cultural cooperation between Italy and China promoted through the activities of the Salotto Italia–Cina and Amalart. Beyond the artistic achievement itself, the donation represents a concrete gesture of international dialogue and a permanent cultural connection between two territories united by creativity, heritage and shared aspirations for the future.
