A journey into people's hearts

What happens when you blend an individual’s desires with their past and significant personal items? This intriguing question lies at the heart of Lorenzo Sala’s thought-provoking solo exhibition, "Human Scan - A Journey into People's Hearts."
Lorenzo, an innovative Italian artist, believes that every image should resonate with the stories of those being portrayed. In this creative endeavor, he invited everyday people to bring one or more items that held deep significance for them. Alongside each item, they were asked to express their connections through a personal sentence, which would serve as the title for their accompanying image. This interactive process formed a meaningful bridge between the subjects and their stories, transforming each object and sentiment into a powerful visual narrative.
The exhibition employed a unique method of capturing each participant’s essence. Each pose took about 30 minutes to develop, during which Lorenzo used a specialized PC scanner to digitally acquire the bodies piece by piece. This technique went beyond mere photography; it reconstructed the human form through a medium that harnessed light and time in extraordinary ways. The resulting images depicted not just static representations, but rather living moments where emotion radiated and every nuance was captured. The prolonged exposure allowed for high zones to be illuminated and flattened, revealing subtle details, while even the smallest movements, such as the rise and fall of each participant's breath, were delicately visible through the gentle trembling of their chests.
Amalart was honored to organize this captivating solo exhibition, which opened its doors at the W Museum in Iksan, Korea, from April 19th to May 19th, 2017. The venue itself, known for its commitment to showcasing contemporary art, provided a dynamic backdrop for Lorenzo Sala’s work, inviting viewers into a realm where art becomes a vessel for personal stories and shared human experiences.
As visitors navigated the evocative collection, they found themselves not only looking at art but also engaging with the very essence of humanity itself. Each piece encouraged reflection on the intricate tapestry of connections that bind us all—past and present—making "Human Scan" an unforgettable journey into the hearts of individuals. Through Lorenzo’s unique lens, the exhibition profoundly illustrated how art can bridge personal narratives with universal themes, revealing the beauty of shared experiences and emotions.
